Trash the dress (literally)
Recently I was on the island of Curacao while on a cruise, my husband asked a local taxi driver to show us the sights. The driver asked me what I did for a living and I told him I was a wedding planner. He then got this glint in his eye and told us he knew exactly what we needed to see while we were on the island. To our surprise he drove up to the Venezuelan consulate. Understandably I was confused and my husband was a bit concerned. Then we walked in and saw an art exhibition that was unbelievable. Venezuelan artists had created wedding dresses out of recycled materials, some of them were so stunning, and could be featured on a fashion runway. Materials included Styrofoam plates, bottle caps, plastic wrap and even aluminum foil. This is one of the reasons I love to travel you never know what you are going to experience or where you will find inspiration.
